Dachau Gas Chamber

Dachau Gas Chamber

Now ya see it. Now ya don’t!

Dachau Gas Chamber

We seem to have a little contradiction here. In 1949 this newspaper reported about the “gas chamber” at Dachau. Now today, official wisdom says there was no gas chamber at Dachau. Who is right?

Text reads:

Must Take a Shower

Now, at Dachau, they live hemmed in by instruments of horror. Their ramshackle barracks sprawl under the shadow cast by a towering brick chimney rising from a low concrete building—the camp crematorium, near to which an engraved bronze plaque starkly states: This area is being retained as a shrine to the 238,000 individuals who were cremated here.” Strolls take the Sudeten refugees past other macabre landmarks ” hanging trees ” with neatly-looped nooses, gallows, and the pistol range where Hitler’s infamous SS guards practised marksmanship on living targets. By contrast the crematorium seems almost merciful. In logical one, two, three sequence is divided into shower room, gas chamber, and furnace room. At Nuremberg an SS officer testified, “There was never any trouble in the gas chambers. We just explained to the Jews that, after the long train ride, they were dirty and must take a shower.” The victims, their pores opened by the hot steam, were then herded into the gas chamber, there be exterminated and finally passed on to the crematorium.

Superstition Among Villagers

Gas jets still protrude like horns from the low ceiling of the gas chamber. In the long furnace room are four furnaces, ‘ two in the centre and one on each side, each big enough to hold two bodies at once. Trays shaped to fit the contours of the, body still gape from each furnace opening. Clustered on a tree-lined hill top a few miles from the former concentration camp are the pleasant, white-painted cottages of Dachau village. The villagers look prosperous in their red-trimmed green Bavarian jackets. lederhosen, and green hats. But among them a superstition is growing. “The essences of death,” they whisper,” which once puffed from the crematorium’s smoke stack and hung over the countryside have settled like a poisonous gas on Dachau moor. “It’s the gas,” a villager may mutter when he breaks out in a rash

Now in comparison, the USHMM says there is no evidence of this gas chamber being used to kill people. Who is right?

Or is the more likely explanation that the gas chamber claim was just part of war time propaganda that could not be backed up by hard evidence and was quietly dropped. Subsequently the gas chamber myth was transported in cattle cars to the east.

The gallows and firing range story continues.

Also note that the article claims 238,000 were cremated at Dachau yet that bastion of truth and facts claims

Over the 12 years of use as a concentration camp, the Dachau administration recorded the intake of 206,206 prisoners and deaths of 31,951. Crematoria were constructed to dispose of the deceased. Visitors may now walk through the buildings and view the ovens used to cremate bodies, which hid the evidence of many deaths. It is claimed that in 1942, more than 3,166 prisoners in weakened condition were transported to Hartheim Castle near Linz, and were executed by poison gas because they were deemed unfit.[40][47] Between January and April 1945 11,560 detainees died at KZ Dachau according to a U.S. Army report of 1945,[48] though the Dachau administration registered 12,596 deaths from typhus at the camp over the same period

Therefore in that logic more people were cremated than had actually passed through the prison camp. Holocaust logic, questioning the holocaust can get you sent to prison in some countries. Questioning the holocaust can ruin your livelihood and job prospects in most countries.

There is something rotten in the sate of Denmark.

  1. There was, and perhaps still is, a video clip (on YouTube) of a woman who was at Majdanek. She and the other Jews had heard that the showers were really gas chambers. She and the other Jews with her thought they would be gassed and then were joyfully surprised when only water came out of the shower heads. Gas chambers were allegedly used at Majdanek, too.

To answer your question, even those who support the official story do not assert that there were death camps in Germany, only in occupied Poland. Thus, the “gas chamber” at Dachua was built after the war for propaganda purposes.

    1. Actually, no. There were gas chambers at German Concentration Camps, Dachau is only one example.

The Dachau Gas Chamber is real, however, how often it was used or if it was used at all is debatable. There is very little hard evidence one way or another.

My own opinion is that it was used for experimental purposes. Denying-History, a guy who comments on FG’s Blog and on Skeptics, has studied this extensively and his conclusions match mine.

      1. I’ve only had time very a quick look at the link you have posted. One thing that did immediately stand out was claim about the number of bodies per oven
“There were four ovens, with a capacity of 7 or 8 bodies each at a time — even nine when the bodies were very emaciated. Cremation lasted about two hours.*”
I’m sorry but that is ridiculous, there’s barely space for one body never mind 7 or 8 at a time. As you can see from FG’s photos https://www.scrapbookpages.com/DachauScrapbook/KZDachau/CrematoriaArea/NewCrematorium04.html
Also the author draws attention to the claim of cremation times been as little as 10 to 15 minutes.
“While the crematorium still functioned normally, the burning of a body lasted 10-15 minutes. ”
        Again ludicrous.
I’m sorry, I digress I know your point was about gas chambers being sited in Germany. I will take a longer look in due course.

There are several studies on the cremation times. I can’t track them down right now.

I’ve got a picture of bodies stuffed in a muffle at liberation:
        https://cdn.theatlantic.com/assets/media/img/photo/2011/10/world-war-ii-the-holocaust/w18_3b38440u/main_600.jpg?1420518945

To be honest I’ve never spent that much time on cremation times. I think there are some articles on it at PHDN and Holocaust Controversies, they compare cremation times. When I get a chance I’ll see if I can find them.
From what I remember the muffles were regularly stuffed beyond capacity. The ovens often broke down so any possible capacity was theoretical. Remember, this was not a regular cremation, this was more like incineration. No shrouds, coffins or clothes. There was no concern about the mixing of ashes from different corpses.

      3. No disrespect but I find the evidence of a gas chamber at Dachau very flimsy indeed.
As you say “There is very little hard evidence one way or another.”
There also appears very little evidence of gas chambers existing at any other concentration camps either. What are passed off to tourists and school children as gas chambers are laughable.
May I just quickly address this point on the Dachau “gas chamber” taken from your link.
“It would appear that the fake shower heads on the ceiling of the chamber , the sign over the door stating Brausebad(shower room) and the smooth brick finish simulating tiling were part of an elaborate ploy to make the victims believe they were going to take a bath after having deposited their clothes in the passageway connecting the disinfestation chambers with the homicidal chamber.”
Why would the Germans go to such elaborate lengths and subterfuge to deceive prisoners into thinking they were just taking a shower. We constantly here about Nazi cruelty and brutality so why go to all that effort just to save the feelings of the victims?
In fact why use such a slow acting agent as Zyklon-B when they could have just used fast acting nerve gases like Sarin or Tabun gas?

This is true. I can give you links to what I have but it is unlikely that the gas chamber was used beyond a few experimental gassings.

“There also appears very little evidence of gas chambers existing at any other concentration camps either.”

There is a book called “Denying History” by Michael Shermer that details the various gas chambers used at the various concentration camps.

Because making it obvious would cause a scene, make resistance more likely, cause riots, etc. This was common at all the actual death camps. The goal was to keep everyone calm.

“In fact why use such a slow acting agent as Zyklon-B when they could have just used fast acting nerve gases like Sarin or Tabun gas?”

Why do you call ZB slow acting? Also, why use something like Sarin or Tabun when ZB was common, produced in large quantities and easy to conceal in regular orders?

ISIS seem to manage keeping everyone calm before cutting peoples heads off with small knives or the mass firing squads, why don’t they use diversionary tactics such as disinfection showers?

I presume you already know all the arguments about ZB but how did they heat it up to 26 c in mid winter in damp underground mortuaries to release the cyanide gas from the pellets?
